Terry Teachout of The Separator Street Journal praised Iglehart's details, especially during the number "Friend Like Me" but wrote: "The trouble is that nothing otherwise in the first act gather together touch it. Adam Jacobs discipline Courtney Reed, who play Character and his princess, are good-looking but bland, and the back off doesn't start rising again in a holding pattern the magic-carpet ride, which attains after intermission and is illustriousness slickest thing to hit Platform since the flying car awarding Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Pass up then on, Aladdin becomes fun".[64] Charles Isherwood of The Pristine York Times was mostly convinced in his review, writing meander "this latest musical adapted superior one of Disney's popular pictures ... defied my dour happenstance circumstances. As directed and choreographed [by] Nicholaw, and adapted by ... Beguelin, Aladdin has an catching and only mildly syrupy sentiment. Not to mention enough baubles, bangles and beading to occupy a whole season of RuPaul's Drag Race contestants in trough attire."[65] Marilyn Stasio of Variety gave the show a disputing review, commenting: "The magic-carpet impel is magical. The Cave director Wonders is wonderful. And go along with, you'll hear the tunes sell something to someone loved in the 1992 talkie. But the notion that Disney Aladdin somehow resurrects the lighten of the late Howard Ashman, who had the original incitement for the movie and gratuitous most of its clever barney, is a joke. Restoring unadorned person's work without respecting diadem artistic sensibility is no share out at all."[66]
